The Silver Scroll Award is considered the most coveted award in New Zealand Music, celebrating the art of songwriting. The Top 5 finalists for the 2022 APRA Silver Scroll have just been announced ahead of the award ceremony on October 16.

Previous winners include Ray Columbus, Lorde, Shona Laing, and in recent years, Troy Kingi, Aldous Harding and Marlon Williams.

The 2022 APRA Silver Scroll finalists are:

1.30 UK Jazz musician - Emma Jean Thackray

Emma-Jean Thackray is a bandleader, multi-instrumentalist, singer, DJ and producer - She studied jazz trumpet at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama under the late British jazz pianist and composer Keith Tippet.

Accompanied by an excellent young band Emma-Jean Thackray plays Wellington on the Sunday 11th Wellington and Auckland on Monday 12th playing an original repertoire that has seen her described as one of the new artists contributing to the new British Jazz movement.

Trevor Reekie speaks to Emma from her home in London.

The Casketeers  is a very popular New Zealand TV series that follow Francis, Kiaora and their staff managing their funeral home business and feature various cultural practises in funeral home. 
They are currently filming the 6th and final series. 

Charlotte Ryan visits the Onehunga branch of the Tipene Funeral Homes and talks to Francis and Kaiora about the music of their life and what are the most popular funeral songs.
