Fifteen fire trucks and two support vehicles are tackling the blaze in a factory.

The fire is next to the train tracks and trains between Ōtāhuhu and Middlemore have been suspended.

Fire and Emergency says it was called to an industrial building on McGee Street in Ōtāhuhu at 3.20pm on Friday.

The fire was well alight when crews arrived at the 30 metre by 12 metre building.

A spokesperson says it's a large blaze requiring trucks from seven different stations, including two ladder trucks.

It is urging nearby residents and businesses to close their doors and windows due to the smoke.
