A man has been charged with murder after a body was found in Hamilton and another man was critically injured.

Emergency services rushed to Beatty Street in Melville, early on Saturday morning, where they found a body as well as the injured man who was rushed to hospital.

Police at the time said they were looking for a third man who had been at the scene where the other men were found.

Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Neilson said on Sunday morning, the 41-year-old man who police were seeking had been arrested.

He was charged with murder as well as wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and was expected to appear in Hamilton District Court on Monday.

The man found badly injured at the scene on Saturday was still a critical condition, in hospital, Neilson said.

Police would like to hear from anyone who knows anything about what happened or anyone who has security camera footage of the incident, which took place in the early hours of Saturday morning - they are asked to call police on 105, or to enter the information into their website at police.govt.nz/use-105.
