One person has died after a crash on State Highway 1C near Hamilton.
Police were called to the two-vehicle crash at the small township of Horotiu at 11am on Tuesday.
Police said the driver of one of the vehicles died at the scene. No one else was injured.
Hato Hone St John said an ambulance, operations manager, and rapid response unit attended.
The road remained closed southbound near the Te Rapa Rd off-ramp while the Serious Crash Unit conduct a scene examination, police said.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area and expect delays.
