Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man was found dead in North Dunedin on Friday.
Detective Inspector Shona Low said police were called to reports of a sudden death at about 2pm on Great King Street.
A 36-year-old man was found dead at the scene.
"The circumstances of the man's death remain under investigation, but initial indications suggest he died from non-accidental injuries," Detective Inspector Shona Low said.
A scene guard is in place as a forensic examination is carried out and there will be an increased police presence in the area.
Formal identification and a forensic post-mortem would be carried out in the next few days.
Detective Inspector Low said the North Dunedin community should expect a large police presence during this time.
"If you have any information that can assist in our investigation, please contact Police on 105 either over the phone or online."
