Loud bangs and gas broke out at a social housing complex as police arrested a man holed up after an officer was shot.
Police said they were called to Auckland's Flat Bush about 9.30am on Monday, and were conducting enquiries when a gun was fired at officers.
An officer suffered "non-life-threatening" injuries and was taken to hospital, police said. They had since been discharged.

A large number of police, some armed, surrounded the property on as police moved in on the house.
After a lengthy stand-off, police took a person into custody at about 1pm on Monday.
An RNZ reporter at the scene said loud bangs and lots of yelling could be heard from inside property.

He said tear gas was potentially used, as some of the effects could be felt down wind.
Chapel Road was blocked off between Baverstock and Stancombe Road, and nearby schools went into lockdown.
Police earlier told RNZ they're speaking via phone with someone who is holed up inside a flat.
They said the person is alone inside.

The Salvation Army told RNZ it was aware of an incident that occurred at or near one of its social housing properties.
"At this stage, we are still working to confirm the details of the situation, including any potential connection to our tenants or properties," a spokesperson said in a statement.
"The Salvation Army is concerned about the situation, particularly the police officer involved, our tenants, the neighbours, and the impact on businesses and schools around the area."

A large number of cars were being redirected away from the cordon.

Nearby Sancta Maria College and Sancta Maria Catholic Primary School were both in lockdown.
"All students and staff are accounted for and are safely inside school buildings," Sancta Maria College posted on its website.

"Please do not come to the school or phone the school."
Sancta Maria Catholic Primary School said all students are safe and the lockdown was a precautionary measure.
