The main road into the seaside settlement of Piha on Auckland's west coast is closed in both directions tonight after a crash.
One person has critical injuries.
Police say they were alerted to the accident on Piha Road by cellphone with Automatic Crash Detection capabilities, which contact emergency services if the user is unresponsive.
The road was likely to be closed for some time.
Drivers were advised to avoid the area where possible and to expect delays.
