The New Zealand Cup is heading across the ditch for a second year on the trot.

Australian horse Swayze stormed home in a thrilling race in Christchurch.

In control for most of the 3200m race, Kiwi Don't Stop Dreaming, ridden by Blair Orange, sneaked ahead at the final 400, only for Cameron Hart and his gelding to pip them right at the line.

The three pre-favourites in Swayze, paying $2.30, Don't Stop Believing and Merlin fought neck-and-neck throughout, as Swayze took the lead after a slightly laboured start.

Pulling out of a length and looking like he would cruise home, Don't Stop Dreaming found another gear with the line in sight and got his nose in front.

However, Swayze would not be denied another $1 million cheque, and dug deep in a dramatic finish to the New Zealand Trotting Cup.

Hart told Trackside to go back-to-back was unbelievable.

"I love this horse, he always puts in for me and when Don't Stop Dreaming came at me he just dug in and pulled away at the line, he is just an incredible horse."

Despite a slightly slow start, Hart said he always knew Swayze had the speed.

"I just had full confidence in this horse, on the line he was super strong."

Kiwis ran second, third and fourth, Don't Stop Dreaming taking second with Republican Party finishing third.
