It will be the Wellington Phoenix not Auckland FC who will play Hollywood backed English Championship side Wrexham.
The Sydney Morning Herald had reported that Auckland FC was in line to play the Welsh club, which is set to tour Australia and New Zealand ahead of the new Championship season later this year.
Wrexham, bought by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney four years ago, gained a third consecutive promotion when they beat Charlton Athletic at the weekend to move up to the Championship next season.
SMH said Wrexham would play in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and New Zealand.
Auckland FC chief executive Nick Becker said his club, which had just finished as A-League minor premiers in their inaugural season, had not been approached as a possible opponent.
"We haven't had any conversations around it and we're not having a game against Wrexham, not that I'm aware of anyway," Becker said.
"It would be fantastic if they came down but it won't be with us."
RNZ has been told the match against the Wellington Phoenix will be officially announced next week, with the game to be played at Sky Stadium in July.
The Phoenix have previously hosted David Beckham's LA Galaxy in 2008 going down 4-1.
In 2014, they stunned English premier league side West Ham 2-1 in a match at Eden Park and the same year also played against Newcastle United in Wellington going down 1-nil.
