Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Thursday
The Situation
A weak ridge spreads over the South Island today while a front approaches the upper North Island from the northeast. An easterly flow is expected to strengthen over the North Island tomorrow as the front and an associated low move over northern New Zealand.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland to Waitomo, also Coromandel Peninsula
Partly cloudy today, with late showers about Northland and Coromandel. Periods of rain tomorrow, with heavy falls about Coromandel.
Bay of Plenty and the central high country, also Gisborne and Hawke's Bay
Fine spells today, with scattered showers inland. Rain developing tomorrow morning, with heavy falls about Bay of Plenty, Gisborne and Hawke's Bay.
Taranaki to Wellington, also Wairarapa
Mainly fine today, with isolated showers. Cloud increasing tomorrow, with occasional rain developing in the afternoon or evening.
For all the South Island
Scattered showers today, mainly inland, some heavy and possibly thundery north of Wanaka. Fine in the west and about Nelson tomorrow, but cloudy at times elsewhere with a few showers, mainly from afternoon.
Chatham Islands
Fine today. Cloudy periods tomorrow with a possible shower.

Tuesday
North Island: Mostly cloudy. Rain in the east and south, gradually easing. Showers elsewhere. South Island: Rain in the east and north, with heavy falls. Mainly fine with isolated showers elsewhere.
Wednesday
North Island: Showers spreading south, some heavy inland during the afternoon and evening. South Island: Scattered showers, some heavy in the north.
Thursday
North Island: Scattered showers, mainly in the afternoon and evening, some maybe heavy. South Island: Showers, mainly inland, some heavy.
Friday
North Island: Showers, mainly afternoon and evening, some possibly heavy. South Island: Showers, mainly inland in the afternoon and evening, some maybe heavy.
And at the Chathams
Periods of rain, possibly heavy, clearing late Thursday then cloudy periods and the odd shower. Strong easterlies developing Tuesday, then easing and turning northerly Wednesday, changing westerly on Friday.
