The Situation

A low and its associated fronts move east across New Zealand today, followed by a disturbed southwest flow. The southwesterlies weaken over the country on Monday.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

Northland to Waikato, including Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty and the central high country

Showers, some heavy with possible thunderstorms, easing this evening. Becoming fine tomorrow.

Gisborne and Hawke's Bay

Rain easing to isolated showers this evening.

Waitomo to Manawatu

Rain with possible thunderstorms, easing to showers this evening, clearing Monday afternoon.

Kapiti, Wellington and Wairarapa

Mainly fine with isolated showers. Rain from this evening to Monday morning. Thunderstorms possible about Wairarapa this evening.

Nelson, Buller, Grey and Westland

Showers with possible thunderstorms, easing evening. Mainly fine tomorrow.

Marlborough, Canterbury and Otago

Rain from afternoon with thunderstorms and localized downpours possible about Canterbury. All easing to showers tonight, clearing tomorrow afternoon.

Southland and Fiordland

Showers. Thunderstorms possible from evening, easing early Monday, clearing later.

Chatham Islands

Rain developing Monday morning with possible thunderstorms, easing afternoon.

North Island: Mainly fine, but isolated afternoon showers in Northland. South Island: A few showers in the west and north. Rain developing in the south with thunderstorms possible at night. Mainly fine elsewhere.

Wednesday

North Island: Partly cloudy with isolated showers, mainly west and north. South Island: Rain in the west, with heavy falls, clearing. Scattered showers elsewhere clearing for most but remaining about Canterbury.

Thursday

North Island: Rain with heavy falls developing in the west and south. Isolated showers elsewhere. South Island: Rain in the east, clearing. Partly cloudy elsewhere, with isolated afternoon showers inland.

Friday

North Island: Rain in the south, clearing. Isolated showers elsewhere. South Island: Rain in the northwest. Isolated showers elsewhere.

And at the Chathams

Partly cloudy with showers clearing Tuesday then returning late Wednesday. Strong southwesterlies, easing Tuesday, turning northwest Wednesday then becoming light on Thursday.
