3.15 Introducing - IA
Māori music collective IA aren’t afraid of a challenge. They mix taonga pūoro with electronic music to create a unique, catchy sound and even filmed a live music video on a waka at sea.
The group aims to make taonga pūoro the “meat and potatoes” of their music. Their ambitious music video for their latest single 'Kōkōrangi' celebrates the art of traditional pacific voyaging. The word kōkōrangi translates to astronomer and the lyrics of the song talk about how pacific ancestors and current voyagers of today have sailed across vast oceans using the star systems and natural elements to guide them.
Lead vocalist and taonga pūoro player Reti Hedley and band member Moetu Smith introduce IA and give you the lowdown on their newest single 'Kōkōrangi'.
3.30 Musical Chairs - Tom Scott & Peter Scott
Home Brew's Tom Scott and his dad, Peter Scott, share more than just genes. Both have music in their veins - Peter's a bass player who's recorded with acts as diverse as Dr John, 10cc and Madness in the UK, and played with Bluespeak and The Jews Brothers in New Zealand. Tom Scott is carving his own lane with his irreverent take on homegrown hip hop.
Father and son musicians Peter and Tom Scott talk about their shared musical beginnings, and the family ties that bind with Sam Wicks.
