Stacey Lee's new documentary Underplayed investigates gender discrimination in the electronic music scene - based on some fairly shocking statistics. It was supposed to premiere at Tribeca Film Festival, but after that was cancelled, got its start in Toronto at a drive-in theatre, and debuted on streaming services on International Women’s Day.
Tony Stamp talked to Stacey Lee about her immersion into the world of electronic music, how the film affected the online platform Boiler Room (which streams DJ sets from around the world), and how she hopes we can redress the balance.
