12:15 Tami Neilson
Celebrated country star Tami Neilson has taken home Best Country Music Artist and Best Country Song at the 2021 Country Music Awards.
Tami won for her 2020 album CHICKABOOM! and infectious single ‘Queenie Queenie’.
The awards were presented tonight at a ceremony in Gore as part of a week-long celebration of country music. The Tussock Country Music Festival will be capped-off with the Gold Guitar Awards, which run from tomorrow through to Sunday.
Tami joins Charlotte on the phone to chat about her big win, and what she has coming up next.
12.35 INTERVIEW: Tim Minchin
Sydney based Tim Minchin has been celebrated globally for writing the music and lyrics for “Matilda the Musical”, which has gone on to become one of the most acclaimed musicals of the last 20 years, winning a record 7 Olivier Awards, 13 Helpmann Awards and 5 Tony Awards. It continues to run in the West End and has already played in over 50 cities worldwide.
He also wrote music and lyrics for the musical adaption of “Groundhog Day”, which after an acclaimed limited run at The Old Vic in London in 2016, debuted on Broadway in April 2017 and won the Olivier Award for Best Musical in 2017.

1.10 INTERVIEW: The Datsuns
The Datsuns Guitarist Phil Somervell talks to Trevor Reekie about The Datsuns' early days learning to play in Cambridge, being championed by the late English DJ John Peel, scoring the cover to NME, recording with Led Zep bassist John Paul Jones and relentlessly touring. He opens up about spending an inordinate amount of time sitting in vans, trains and planes to take their music to wildly diverse audiences around the globe.
It’s a history spanning 20 years that reinforces the belief that although serendipity has sometimes worked in The Datsuns favour, they’ve always been well ready for it.

It’s another RNZ music Live Session! This time it’s Raglan-based musician Muroki!
He was the first person to be signed to Benee’s label Olive last year, and he’s set to be one to watch. Elton John even sings Muroki’s praises, after Benee played one of his songs on Elton's John's Radio Show.
You can catch Muroki live alongside The Butlers next Friday, June 11 at Auckland's The Tuning Fork and Saturday, June 12 at Raglan's YOT Club.

2.40 Charlotte Yates / Mansfield
A selection of poems by Katherine Mansfield have been set to contemporary music composed by some of Aotearoa’s leading songwriters. Curated by Charlotte Yates, the album was originally released in February 2020 titled Mansfield. Although initially postponed due to covid, the live show now finally has dates in June.
The concert will be narrated by Miranda Harcourt and will feature the following artist's: Anna Coddington, Lawrence Arabia, Lontalius, Mel Parsons, Will Ricketts and Toby Laing, Lorina Harding, Charlotte Yates with Darren Mathiassen, Show Pony and Johnny Lawrence, The Bats, Julia Deans, French For Rabbits, Tusiata Avia and Delaney Davidson.
Charlotte Yates joins Charlotte Ryan for a summit of the Charlottes to discuss how the show came together, and the impact of Katherine Mansfield's poetry.

3:20 INTERVIEW: Director Gracie Otto on 'Under The Volcano'
'Under the Volcano’ is a new documentary screening at the upcoming Doc Edge film festival. It’s about George Martin’s ‘AIR Monserrat’ studio – Monserrat is an island in the Caribbean with an active volcano, and the studio was running from 1979 till 1989, when a hurricane struck and forced it to close. During that time, albums were made there by Paul McCartney, The Police, Dire Straights and many more.

Delaney Davidson is an award-winning artist best known for his gothic folk country persona and prolific output who has also played an important and influential role in local music as producer, collaborator and catalyst for artists such as Tami Neilson, Marlon Williams, Barry Saunders and Troy Kingi.
In this episode of Musical Chairs, Delaney speaks about what inspired and shaped his artistic purpose. We begin with Death Don’t Have No Mercy from Sad But True Vol. 1: The Secret History of Country Music Songwriting. The debut release of Delaney and Marlon Williams won the duo the 2013 APRA Tui best country album

An amazing female force in the NZ music scene who has won multiple awards and earned much critical acclaim for her solo releases and collaborations with Stan Walker, Rob Ruha and many other esteemed local musicians.
Next month Ria Hall curates a special show for Matariki – an all-woman event featuring Anika Moa, Annie Crummer, Tami Neilson and more on the stage. The show is called Tuawahine and will honour the country’s korokoro tūī who have carved a path helping to create one of the most vibrant and diverse musical communities in the world
