1:15 Silver Scrolls finalists: 5 songs about connection, fun and whakapapa

There are some beautiful thoughts on relationships from this year’s Silver Scrolls finalists. There’s also the power of finding your roots, and the thrill of letting go and choosing fun.

The prestigious NZ music award, celebrates the art of songwriting in New Zealand and has passed through the hands of some of our most celebrated songwriters - Ray Columbus, Bic Runga, Marlon Williams, Sir Dave Dobbyn, Rob Ruha and last year’s winners, The Beths for their song 'Expert in a Dying Field'.

The APRA Silver Scroll Awards are happening on Tuesday in Pōneke Wellington, and the five finalists tell the story of their song on Music 101.

2.15 Review: Paul McCartney & Wings: One Hand Clapping

Screening in select NZ cinemas is a new documentary about Paul McCartney and Wings - One Hand Clapping.

The one hour doco shows long-lost footage of Paul McCartney in the studio in the early 70s with Wings.

RNZ’s Simon Morris joins Charlotte to talk about the film's intimate look at Wings creating some historic music.

2:30 The Hard Quartet: Drummer Jim White on why rock’s not dead

The Hard Quartet is a band we think you should pay attention to.

They’ve been called a supergroup, and it’s an interesting one because each member has a cult following. Stephen Malkmus is best known for his work with Pavement, Matt Sweeney from Superwolf with Bonnie Prince Billy and Cat Power, and Emmett Kelly, the songwriter and guitarist for The Cairo Gang and who has also collaborated with Will Oldham.

The drummer, Jim White, who also plays with Dirty Three and Smog, joins Charlotte Ryan to mark the release of The Hard Quartet’s self-titled debut album.

4pm The Mixtape: DJ Vee

Today’s guest on the RNZ Mixtape is DJ Vee - real name Vishal Vasan.

Vishal’s musical journey started on Cuba Street Wellington, then to DJing with FFD, slinging records in Soho and organising the Brick Lane Music Festival.

He has just opened Kemuri Hi-Fi, an underground bar in Auckland inspired by Japanese jazz cafes, where vinyl and high-end audio systems take centre stage.

DJ Vee joins Charlotte Ryan to play the tunes from his life behind the turntable.
