Another of New Zealand's young weightlifting talent has scored a top 10 finish at the World Championships in Norway.

Eighteen-year-old Litia Nacagilevu of Nelson broke national records to finish ninth in the women's 86kg class.

Earlier this week Auckland's Olivia Selemaia finished eighth in the 69kg class.

Nacagilevu snatched a Commonwealth record 109kg, then lifted 131kg in the clean and jerk.

Those two and the total of 240kg were all national senior and junior records.

She was just 6kg off a snatch medal and 12kg away from the bronze medal in the total.

Solfrid Koanda made it a special night for the locals with the Olympic champion winning the category with the very last lift of the competition in front of the Norwegian Prime Minister and the Norwegian King.

New Zealand has a number of young athletes competing at the World Championships and like Selemaia, Nacagilevu is a contender for next year's Commonwealth Games.

Former Commonwealth Games champion David Liti competes in the 110kg+ class over the weekend.

Liti said he was excited about the competition and enjoyed being on the big stage.

Liti finished ninth at his last world champs in 2023.
